EEK! That's all i've got, y'all. When I dreamed up the I am the South and the South is me I had no idea where to begin. I literally sat in a hotel room textin' James and jokin' about how many generations Texan he was. Evetually #SouthernPortraits  was born. I'm so humbled that people tune in each week to see who I'll feature and hear their stories. I'm havin' fun lettin' you in to my view of The South: the people, stories and places that have shaped my life. I keep jokin' with my aunt that my family don't know what hit them. This summer we're havin' a family reunion in Jackson Mississippi and I plan on thrustin' my camera in everyone's face. My Paw Paw will be the first one. I can hear him now, " I'mma be in the internet Annie Lou. How 'bout that..." Not on the internet but in it! HA.

Whelp, now that's outaa the way, y'all, let's consider this the start of my #SouthernNights Series. Look at me gettin' the hang of this bloggin'. Quick, someone bring me a glass of sweet tea and a bowl of cheese girts. No, i'm serious. We're out of both. I suppose a big thanks is in order to #BourbonandBoots. Not only did they help inspire this series but they provided me with some goodies.  #SouthernNights: This is my who, what when, where and why. I'll let you into my Southern nights. Y'all ready...
I always laugh when frans and family from out of state talk about seasons. I had a cousin put on Facebook a few months ago that grillin' season was comin' to an end and the cold weather was about to set in. Y'all I wanted to bless his little heart. He can't help himself. He's born in raised in Wisconsin. I've mentioned before that my Momma was born in The South but grew up up North. Well, my aunt that stayed up North is the only one that didn't have good enough sense to come back down South when she got older.  Besides this extremely cold winter it usually is nice year round in Texas. We grill and sit outside whenever we like. My sister likes to joke that God doesn't give us a proper winter cause a Texas Summer is hard enough. Oh, ain't that the truth, y'all. In keepin' with the #SouthernNights theme,   I thought I'd let y'all into somethin' we do 'round here.

Any given Friday or Saturday night we can be found down by the lake. Our hometown sits off Ray Hubbard. Growin' up there wasn't much to do 'round here before the highway cut through. We ain't a small town anymore but we still know how to make our own fun. The pic above is actually where we hang out on many an occasion. I joked with one of the boys the other day that they would get to see their handy work in Pinterest form. Y'all he didn't quite understand. We also got in a debate over Cornhole vs Washers. Lemme know what y'all call it. And can we talk about this supposed toilet. No, I have never used it and don't plan on doin' so. One of the boys actually tried to persuade me to use it cause wood is porous and therefore won't hold germs. No thank you, sir. But you can't have a proper Southern Night down by the lake without these things. Halfway through the night Cox usually brings out his guitar, and the songs start flowin'. Bart Crow Band, "Wear my Ring" and  "Wagon Wheel" is always sung.
A few weeks back one of the boys had a birthday. That's what's in the video above.  I was beyond excited cause I was gonna gift him the Texas lisence plate koozies Bourbon and Boots gave me. The boys are always tryin' to find new things to put their drinks in. When your sittin' by a fire all night your drink becomes hot real quick. I was excited to test them out. I texted him and was like, "if I don't get a decent shot tonight then you can't keep them until I do. Y'all I can never get this boy to pose for anythin'. But he sure did stand next to the fire and hold that koozie like his life depended on it. That's how much he loved these bad boys. His words, "super tits." I'd like to say that's Southern Boy language but that's all him.
The boys started passin' the koozies around and fightin' over who got to use them next. I yelled at 'em, "Bourbon and Boots wants to hear more than these koozies are super tits." One of the boys turned to me and went, "It's not heavy at all. Very light weight and my drink stays very cold. Here feel." Then he turned and went back to chattin' up this blond. Y'all It had to be the most intelligent and thought out comment he made all night. I fought hard to keep from laughin' cause he was so serious in that moment. The boys also loved that their Shiner and Fetzer would fit in the koozie. You've got 'em now Bourbon and Boots. They also wanted me to let y'all know that The Plano beer Holster is genius.

They were so in love with the koozies that most the boys didn't even pay me no mind when I was up in their face snappin' pics. One of the boys paused and went, "Dude she's snappin' your pic." Another responded, Naw, she always does this. She gotta write about how we like them in exchange for keepin' 'em. She's not snappin' you, she wants that product in your hand. She won't even put your face on the blog." Yay, the boys are learnin'. Only took 'em a year.
As for the koozie: It's made by 3 Sisters Design Co and sold on Bourbon and Boots. These beauties sell for $28 a piece. If you're new to Bourbon and Boots then I suggest you get ya some asap. They are my all time favorite Southern website and I almost cried when I found out they were gonna send me some products. Y'all don't even know. Their two articles on Front Porch Sittin' in Arkansas are what I strive for my blog to be. And ya know what else? They gave me a 5% coupon code to share with y'all so ya can go get ya some. Just type in blogglitzngrits14 when you check out. I wonder if I can use my own code. Big thanks to Bourbon and Boots.

  1. I love living in the south as well. Atlanta has seasons but winter is usually pretty short which is cool with me.
