"...I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul."

Day 4, Saturday: Favorite quote (from a person, from a book, etc) and why you love it
“Live life fully while you're here.
Experience everything.
Take care of yourself and your friends.
Have fun, be crazy, be weird.
Go out and screw up!
You're going to anyway,
so you might as well enjoy the process.
Take the opportunity to learn from your mistakes:
find the cause of your problem and eliminate it.
Don't try to be perfect;
just be an excellent example of being human.”
- Anthony Robbins

"Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul."
 — William Ernest Henley

I don't necessarily have a favorite quote. It changes from day to day. Currently, these two quotes speak to me so profoundly. Y'all it matters what you do in this life. I want to stand at The Pearly Gates with no regrets. William Henley has always spoke to me. Even your words are powerful. The Bible says that life and death are in the power of the tongue. I try not to waste my words because you never know who is listening or what impact they will have on someone.

Because "I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul."

  1. I love this because I posted quotes about travel and living a nomad life and this one would fit perfectly in that theme too.

Found your blog through the link up.

  4. I used "I thank what ever gods may be for my unconquerable soul" as one of my quotes today. But all of Invictus is so, so good. Definitely a kick in the ass for the days when I feel defeated.

  7. I really like that quote by Tony Robbins and will add it to my personal collection! :)) Life is short and it's easy to take it for granted or get caught up in being perfect rather than just... accepting ourselves and being the best versions of ourselves we can be. :)
