Sissy's Southern Kitchen, I adore thee

You know when you plan to visit a restaurant you know nothin' about for the first time and your excited about it so you look up the menu a head of time so they'll be no surprises when you get to the restaurant only to have it all go out the window when you get to said restaurant. Holy crazy excited sentence. Well, that happened to me when I visited Sissys's Southern Kitchen. For the past few months I have been planin' a Texas Meetup of the Southern Bloggin' Girls Group. I'm plannin' the event with  Addie. Side note: The event is this Saturday at The Rutstic in Dallas. It's free and y'all should come. Click that pretty link attached to Addie's name to read all about it. Now, where were we... Ahh, yes the lovely Sissy's Southern Kitchen.   Addie and I decided to meet up their for a quick bite and to get to know each other since we technically had never met in person. Addie picked the restaurant cause it was close between the two of us. I was ecstatic cause I had heard how great the restaurant was and this would be my first official blate. Bloggin' + date = blate. Well, anyways. Y'all know I'm always bloggin' out loud.

Did I mention that I have a slight problem/obsession with Shrimp, Grits and Sweet Tea? I'm sure if you've read the blog for any length of time you have come to realize that. It's not all hooplah for blog show. It's an actual problem where I get headaches if I go to long without sweet tea. My body can't handle it. I probably shouldn't brag about such things but oh well. Growin' up I used to have Shrimp eatin' contest with my second eldest Godbrother. Remember I mentioned we were all praticallty raised together. More like we all grew up in the same town and they lived liked five minutes down the road. And Grits. That outta be obvious. It's in my blog name for goodness sakes

I can't go to a restaurant and not order shrimp. I am not a picky eater or afraid to try new things but I hate to at restaurants cause I know I'll be mad if I waste my money on somethin' I don't like. So upon enterin' the restaurant I had it all planned out that I would order the fried chicken and mashed potatoes. Hello stereotypes. Well, I quickly changed my mind when I realized I wasn't in the mood for chicken. The Low Country Gumbo was another fabulous choice but I was scared I wouldn't like the low Country part of the Gumbo so I quickly vetoed that. If you didn't know: Low Country Gumbo isn't the same as the Cajun/Creole Gumbo my family eats. Well, all hell broke loose when I saw Shrimp and Grits on the menu. To tell y'all I love Shrimp and Grits would be an understatement. And not only were they Shrimp and Grits but they were the Holy Grail of Shrimp and Grits. Shrimp and Cheese Grits. Y'all it was as if Jesus himself was standin' in front of me tellin' me, Well done my good and faithful servant"

To say these were the best Shrimp and Cheese Grits I ever had... I can't not y'all. The dish came with a sauce that was heavenly.

What I loved even more than the food is the atmosphere: There were mason jars everywhere. Everywhere I tell ya. The staff was not only the friendliest but the waiters and waiters dressed like somethin' of another time in The South. We were seated on a covered patio that was so serene and peaceful. Y'all even the bathroom was prestine. I guarantee you Sissy probably had a Grandma like mine who was always yellin', "Cleanliness is next to Godliness." No seriously. Once years back my Momma went off about how dirty my room was and how it was an insult to God. That he had blessed me with nice things and it was an insult to him to not take care of them and keep my room clean.

The prices may be a tad high but they are worth every penny when you taste how good the food is  and realize everythin' is fresh and locally growin'. That's somethin' I'll pay for anyday of the week.

So if you're ever in Dallas you should stop by Sissy's Southern Kitchen or as I've dubbed, "The loveliest place in Dallas," and tell 'em Aleshea from Glitz & Grits sent ya by.

Ohh, y'all just barely Southern

Y'all remember a few weeks back when I mentioned that in The South, Spring is Weddin' Season? It's ok if ya don't. That's why I have pretty pink links. This past weekend was another event to add to my weddin' season. Many have come and gone but over the years there/s been a small group of girls I've semi-stayed in contact with. We met in Kindergarten almost 22 years ago. We were in Girl Scouts together and our moms have kept a tight knit friendship. They have affectionately named themselves the Shouldabeen Sisters. This past Memorial Weekend one of the Girls had her bridal Shower. She is the first in the group to get married if you don't count older sibs.

I love Memorial Day/Weekend and am a supporter of rememberin' the real reason for the season, but yall... I get so excited that I can officially wear white again. Recently I had someone ask me where the 'no white after Labor Day rule comes from'. I was always taught that white was cooler and in The South where it is always hotter it was a way to stay cool in the Summer. White was also lighter back in the Antebellum South. As the years progressed, think 1930's, white became a sign of High Society. Many wore darker colors to work. Even in the summer. But if you were seen in white it usually meant you have money and the time and leisure in the summer to do as you pleased. I mentioned before that the ONE time I wore white after labor day I messed my pants so bad. I've never defied the fashion god's sense.

Somehow half way through the chatter, the topic turned to Junior League. If y'all didn't know, cause I've only mentioned it in passin', I joined the Junior League. Our first official meetin' was last weekend and I paid my dues. So for the next year I'll be what they call a Provisional. Hopefully this time next year you'll see a post where I'm talkin' all about how I made it through the year and am an official member. The Dallas JL has much claim to fame. It is the largest and one of the most prestigious. The Matron of Honor is joinin' the Fort Worth Junior League so it was nice to compare notes and discuss with someone who is just as excited and overwhelmed. It was also quite funny cause the venue that the bride is havin' her reception in, just happens to be the same place Bestfran Numerous Duo works. She's actually the point of contact for them.

I hope y'all had a lovely Labor Day weekend?!?! I wanna hear all about it. Spill. What did ya do. Where did ya go? What's your favorite things about Weddin' Season.

I like to pretend that the view here in The South is better than all the world combined. Sometimes I sit out and just enjoy God creations.
