Campus Books

Big thanks to Campusbookrentals for sponsorin' today's post.

If you've been followin' along these past few weeks then you'll know that I've been doin' a back to school series for college students. The first post was basic advice for incomin' college students as well as a giveaway. The second post was tips on what things you may need if you're livin' on campus. You can find all the pretty little post in my archives. See, I'd post links, but then you'd be to worried about clickin' those and not the pretty ones from the sponsor. This final post will be all about books.

You have many options when it comes to purchasin' books for college. The biggest thing I can suggest is waitin' to purchase your books. My first year of college I went through the bookstore at orientation and submitted my class schedule. Then they had the books ready for me by the first day of classes. Boy was it crazy expensive and a waste of my time and money. Not only do some professors changes some of the books but some of the classes didn't half use the book. I'll never forget bein' late to my first class which was a basic Poli-Sci class. The boy next to me was a Senior who had put off the class. He looked over at me with my fresh backpack and stack of books and goes, "You MUST be a Freshman." Needless to say I got an earful and learned the ins and outs pretty quick. He then asked me to sign in for him if the teacher ever took roll and he wasn't in class. I looked at him like he was stupid.

Now, this is where campusbookrentals comes into play. They are a company where you can rent textbooks through them. The main reason I love them and will continue to support them is because they donate to operationsmile with each textbook rented. You can also search the pretty little archives if you wanna see my past post on Operation Smile and how Campus Books works with them and how I knew someone personally helped by the organization.

But back to book rentals. What makes Campus Book so great isn't that you save 40-90% off bookstore prices. That's huge if you go to a smaller school like I did where options weren't really available. It isn't even that you get free shippin' or can write in the books. The best part to me is the rent back program. Essentially once you make money back. It's real simple Y'all.

See now that isn't so hard. But seriously. Y'all should check them out and get to gettin'.

What is the craziest book you ever needed for a class?

"..A 90's Reba song echos back off the dashboard"

Drivin' down I20 , headed East. We'd well past the State line. I was antsy. Very antsy. I glanced over to my right. She was fast asleep in the passenger seat. I glanced in my rear view mirror. She, too, was fast asleep. The green state sign read," Monroe 20 miles." The billboard above boasted West Monroe and it's famous Duck Dynasty residents. My fangirl mind raced.
Louisiana was nothin' new to me. After all many summers were spent in Southern Louisiana with family. One summer we were shipped to Grandma's while the parentals cruised the Bahamas. Still a bittersweet memory even now. Jealous of the vacation we weren't invited to but thankful. That summer fostered my love for The South and the outdoors. The rich history it possesses. Lookin' back, I'm thankful for the summer of '96. Even if my 9 year old self didn't understand it's impact at the time.
But this part of the state. Yes, this part was new. Northern Louisiana was a vast Southern unknown to me. I didn't realize we'd be passin' this way. My mind raced. Would they realize if I veered off course? Jackson Mississippi, our destination wasn't going anywhere. It'd still be waitin'.

Y'all know I love me some Chili's

Y'all know I love me some Chili's.How could I not when it's all we had growin' up?!?! Well, they love me right back and therefore this post is sponsored by them and Bellisio.

Y'all know I love me some Chili's. Remember the whole: growin'-up-in-this-town-we-ain't-have-nothin'-but-a-McDonals-and-then-when-I-was-12-we-got-a-Walmart. Well, one of the first real restaurants, that wasn't mom and pop, Cici's or family owned that we got was a Chili's.I was in high school and it was the biggest deal ever. We had another place to go to Friday Night after the football game other than Cicis. If y'all know how many countless hours I spent in that place in a back corner booth eatin' all they cheesecake. Ya see, two of my HS bestfrans had first jobs at Chili's. The manager was a family friend of one of the girls and she got them hired on. They got discounts and bein' the broke HS kids we were, we ate all they cheesecake. What made it worse? It would never fail that we would always come in right before closin'. The waiters would always look at us and shake they heads. They already knew and we had no shame. No shame I tell y'all. We should have but we didn't.

If I wasn't bein' racthet and actually ordered food it was always the Cajun Shrimp Alfredo or the Cajun Chicken Alfredo. Always. I still remember the first burger I ever tried from Chili's and who I was with. I also remember my first day of Kindergarten like it was yesterday so there's that. Did I mention that it's lunch time here and this post is makin' me hungry. I bet Billy is eatin' all kinds of wonderful. Sidenote: I gave Billy the leftovers so he had lunch today and tom.

Y'all know what else I love? I love me some frozen food. It's a situation. It really is.So much. In High school all my sister ate was frozen food. She would store them in the drill team locker room. If only the band hall had had a proper microwave. I think it was done on purpose to make us leave. We spent enough time in that place as it was. Anyways back to my love of Frozen food and less random about my sister.

You know who else loves frozen meals? Sherry does. I texted her to see if she wanted to PAAARTY and try Chili's new at home meals. The response I got was priceless. It read: Yep! My Momma ain't home so I gotta eat somehow. FEED MEEEEEEE. Oh my, Jesus, and eat we did!
I spend a lot of time hangin' out and generally just havin' fun. I think to think I'm blessed. My Momma calls it privileged. Whatever. I'mm enjoy my 20's not havin' to be tied down to anythin'. Things like all these new meals from Chili's is gonna make it extra easier to hang out. I before I could even out the car in park Sherry had the door open usherin' me in. Y'all it took longer to snap the photos than it did to cook that Alfredo. The Chicken Florentine took a tad longer but you could always skip the wait and cook it in the microwave. I kept bein' impatient and openin' the oven and lettin' out all the heat. But the best part is that many of my favorite Chili's entrees are now available to take home. They even have single serve. Can I get a - Praise baby Jesus, thank you Chili's and a yes ma'am.

It was a beautiful day in Texas so we sat by the pool and enjoyed our food. Then we watched Orange is the New Black. I had never seen the show and personally don't see the obsession. But I did like that Crazy Eyes actress. She was WERKIN' it.

Now go get ya some and let me know what's your favorite meal from Chili's

Emporium Pies:The Bourbon Nut

And this post ain't sponsored by nobody other than my own bank account and the many calories in my belly a few weeks back. Shame, shame, shame. But I'll take pie as a form of payment anyday. Pumpkin please. Speakin' of pie: I don't appreciate companies makin' Apple pie to look like Pumpkin pie. I came home to pie on the stove and was all excited only to have my feelin's hurt. And to that janky online quiz a few weeks back that told me I was only 94% true Texan cause I always pick Pumpkin pie or Pecan pie... #ByeFelicia.

Full to the the brim from our excursion at Lockharts, during #TexasBarbecue Week, a walk was in order. You can't visit the Bishop Arts District and not marvel at the beauty, architecture, culture and history of one of the oldest parts of Dallas. It just isn't possible. So a walk down Bishop Ave we did.  The beautiful musical mural the apple of our eye. Our walkin' intensified as we neared. I'd like to say the beauty compelled us. But that's not the case. Our urgency to push down our food was the culprit. Our walkin' ceased and lead us here. Where's here? Emporium Pies.We saw the beautiful house, with it's many colors and bustlin' people. The sign read Emporium Pies. Well, that was it. Our food bellies died. Our eyes perked and our appetites returned.

So we entered. After all the beautiful mural lead us to Emporium Pies. The sign beckoned us. It was as if it called to us, yellin', "you know you want me!" Enterin' Emporium Pies was probably the smartest decision we made that week. The old fashioned house had been converted into a cozy little pie shop. We waited in line. Snapped all the pics. Enjoyed the decor and over all had a splendid time. Do people even say splendid anymore? But next time, I'mma need some pumpkin pie on that menu even though we did enjoyed The Bourbon Nut

What's you favorite type of pie?

Put your Sunnies on

Thanks for bein' my fran today Firmoo. All fashion poses butchered and bad grammer is my own.

"Girl put your record on...play me your favorite song. Go ahead let your hair down." Excuse me while I sing this to myself. Y'all gotta admit: me standin' in my backyard, snappin all the pics with my bible ‘cause I ain't got a clutch, while pretendin' I actually know about fashion, makes you wanna sing this song, too. Ok maybe it' just me. I can deal. You know what else I can deal with: my new sunglasses from Firmoo. See what I did?!?!

But seriously, in the last few months or so I have started to adore the wonders that are shoppin' online. There's always deals to be had. This even includes glasses. As someone who has unfortunately worn glasses/contacts since I was 13 I know the struggle. Especially the struggle in prices vs designs. And that is why I am happy to promote Firmoo and all the lovely styles they have.

I chose a new pair of sunglasses because who doesn't love sunglasses. Especially in Texas where it is still blazin' hot. Y'all it's hotter than I don't know what and only gettin' hotter. What I love the most about these glasses wasn't the sturdy cased they came in. No, it wasn't the microfiber cloth, nor was it the affordable prices. Heck it wasn't even that I could customize the tint color and see real time examples via the website. It was the nice little handy glasses screwdriver that came with the package. I know that sounds silly but I squeed so loud when I saw it. All my vision impaired frans know how lovely those things are.

And y'all know they be havin' all them deal so you have no excuse to get ya some. But seriously go do it.
