Campus Books brings smiles.

Gather 'round kiddos it's story time. Wait, I'm not at school and y'all aren't my kiddos. Who am I tryin' to kid? I don't say that to the kids at work. They would laugh me out the room and never listen to the lesson I was tryin' to teach. When Campus Books contacted me about a sponsored post I was like, "who me? I'm done with school and have yet to study that GRE book starin' me in the face every night." And then I thought, "Do they know I used to work on my campus and part of my job was to inform students on things and if I said it students usually listened?" But I got over myself real quick and agreed to do the post. Why you might ask.. cause of Operation Smile, that's why!

I've never mentioned this but Senior year of HS I was nominated for a scholarship because a teacher thought I was a great example of overcoming adversity. I guess living despite doctors warnings, having life saving surgery at 16 and then watching your father die at 17 and not coming out a hot mess makes people interested in what you do with your life and how you succeed. I was all honored that I was nominated and wrote the best dang essays you ever did see. Obviously I lost and that is why I have material for this post. Who did I lose to you may ask? I lost to another student who overcame WAAAAYYY more adversity. He was born with a cleft lip. As soon as I found out he was in the finals with me I knew I was a goner and they should just hand the 10,000 check over to him. At the time I was all bummed and actin' a fool. I wasn't really friends with this kid despite having many classes and group projects with him. I also didn't know much about cleft lip except he had a surgery after he was adopted. Needless to say after I did some research I realized why he won and wasn't so bummed. That also led me to Operation Smile and what they do. It is amazing and that's all their is to it. In a former life I wanted to be a doctor and eventually join doctors with no borders. Obviously that didn't work out and I resorted to blogging instead. I guess I'll just have to live vicariously through Campus Books.
Operation Smile and its more than 5,000 medical volunteers are working every day around the world to provide safe, effective and free cleft lip and cleft palate reconstructive surgery for children all over the world. We are an international medical humanitarian organization that works in over 60 countries that is dedicated to raising awareness of this life-threatening issue and providing lasting solutions.

We all know that buying textbook is a hot mess and no one ever wants to do it. Spending all that hard earned money you made over the summer is no fun. Working on campus in college we were always told to support the book store. I was always getting in trouble for trying to tell students about other options. By now I know y'all just want me to get to the point. So here it is: If you rent your text books with Campus Books not only are you saving 40-90%, receiving that good ol' free shipping to and there but they are flexible and you can write till your hearts content in that book. Plus why do you want to buy a book in a subject you will never need. But really I just LOVE that they donate to http://www.operationsmile.org/about_us/who-we-are/ and save some lives. So it's like your giving to charity with each book you rent. And once your done head on over to www.RentBack.com. Basically you then rent out your textbook to other students and make money. That's what I call a win win. Oh, I hope people still say that. Whelp, that's all follks. Now go tell your mom and 'nem!

  2. That's a great cause for them to support. And I seriously hope their business succeeds because I have a kid who will be heading to college in 12 years and I am already afraid of how much books will cost.
